Short-Term Application Of Intravenous Amino Acids For The Control Of Cravings And Withdrawal

Addiction and substance abuse is undermining the very moral fabric and future of America today. In 1995 it was estimated that the cost of alcohol and other drugs reached a staggering figure of 276 billion, not including the pain and suffering of loved ones and friends. Alcoholics have an estimated decrease in life expectancy of 10-15 years, with alcohol the most frequently used and abused intoxicant and involved in 40% of all fatal motor vehicle accidents (1 and 2).

Although not illegal, nicotine accounts for approximately 25 million people addicted and is the cause of 430,000 tobacco related deaths per year.

The most commonly abused opiates are, heroin and methadone. It has been estimated by the National Institute of Drug Abuse that approximately 2.5 million Americans have a history of heroin abuse (3).

Stimulants such as cocaine are widespread as well in America and it is estimated 72 million Americans have tried or are using or cocaine (3).

Methamphetamine is growing at an unstoppable rate due to the ease of making the drug, and is now competing with cocaine as a drug of choice.

Although there are numerous examples of addictive drugs in America they all show similar symptoms and qualities of craving and withdrawal conditions. The individuals at greatest risk are genetically predisposed through a neurochemical pathway that alters the minds perception of pleasure and reward. Kenneth Blum, coined the term, “Reward Deficiency Syndrome,” to relate to the neurotransmitter deficit that occurs due to use of drugs and alcohol. Although the pathways may vary, depending on the abused substance, they all show a common final neurochemical pathway in their expression of euphoria when abundant, and craving when deficient.

The important Amino-peptide neurotransmitters to date are serotonin, dopamine, GABA and the enkephalins. Dopamine specifically is the neurotransmitter of pleasure. When dopamine is in abundance, it provides a state of well-being. Although this research will focus on alcohol, there are many other substances that can alter the increase in dopamine resulting in pleasure. Other altering scenarios can be glucose, impulsive/compulsive disorders, gambling and risk-taking activities, opiates, cocaine and cigarettes.

When the brain is supplied with a substance a momentary spike in neurotransmitter activity of dopamine occurs. The body then reacts to down regulate this excessive increase by down regulating the neurotransmitter sites of production or receptor sites, or by increasing the breakdown of neurotransmitters. Because of this, the brain develops tolerance and the need for more of the drug to prevent a state of withdrawal.

The point at which addiction can occur is variable and based on the individual’s genes. Recently, the dopamine D2 receptor called the A1allele, has been known to be a greater prevalence for alcoholics, opiate or cocaine addicts.

This pleasure and reward system was discovered, by accident, in 1954 by James Otis. By mistake, Otis placed electrodes in the Para limbic system of rats. In doing so, Otis observed he could elicit a pleasure response. This response caused the rats to continuously press a lever, causing an electrical stimulation to this area even to the point of starvation. It was later noted that an increase in dopamine was being released in regions of the limbic system, specifically the nucleus accumbens and the hippocampus.

Recently, a pharmacological approach to alter these neurotransmitters and help people with reward deficiency syndrome has been found. Studies by Brown and Blum indicate that certain amino acid precursors can relieve cravings and reduce incidents of a relapse. Oral formulas have been formulated and produced with these amino acids, vitamins and minerals cofactors. Recently an intravenous pharmacological approach utilizing amino acid neurotransmitter precursors have shown to have an immediate and profound effect on craving reduction and withdrawals in 86% of the patients with no side effects noted by this researcher or by Excel treatment facility during the last two years. The intravenous amino acids, vitamins, and mineral therapy appears to augment the dopamine and serotonin levels while the body begins to return to better handling oral nutrients and neurotransmitter homeostasis.

This study has been implemented to determine the efficacy of intravenous amino acids to reduce withdrawal and craving from substance abuse.

Methodology

Nine subjects were picked from phone in volunteers from a local Denver newspaper add (Exhibit 1).

Inclusion into the study are individuals who are between the ages of 18 and 50 years old, in good health, not court ordered and who desire to stop their substance abuse, but to date, are unable to do so. Methadone or a history of psychiatric hospitalize subjects are excluded from this study. All subjects will undergo a history and physical exam and a doctor will be present at all times. Initials will be used for publishing purposes only and strict confidentiality will be observed of all subjects.

The treatment subjects will undergo 10 sessions (Monday through Friday) of a multi amino acid, vitamin and mineral solution in a 250cc ½ NS bag group or a placebo group of Vitamins (B2, B12 and Folate) in a 250cc ½ NS bag with matching color and volume. All subjects will undergo drug testing for their addiction including random breath and/or urine drug tests.

If you smoke, you will be asked to keep track of the number of cigarettes smoked daily.

To be entered into the research group each individual must meet the requirement of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders TR (DSM-IV TR) for an Axis-I drug dependence.

Axis-I 303.90 Alcohol Dependence

Axis-I 304.40 Amphetamine Dependence Including Methamphetamine

Axis-I 304.30 Cannabis Dependence

Axis-I 304.20 Cocaine Dependence

Axis-I 305.10 Nicotine Dependence

Axis-I 304.00 Opioid Dependence

Axis-I 304.90 Polysubstance-related Disorder

Other axis-I substance dependence disorders will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The research subjects will be placed randomly into two equal groups A and B.

The control-or placebo-group will receive an intravenous solution of 250 cc of a ½ normal saline bag with B2, B12 and folate to give the distinctive color to the bags.

The experimental group will be given an intravenous solution consisting of a patented formula titled TGGRS Treatment (Third Generation Genetic Repair System). The Tigers Treatment consists of multi amino acids, vitamins and mineral solution drip over a 1 & 2-hour period for 10 sessions. All subjects will be randomly be monitored by blowing a B.A.C. or urine drug tests. A questionnaire will also be required to rate their craving and anxiety symptoms each session. Specific cravings will be rated from a zero (0)-indicating no craving or withdrawal, to a ten (10)-indicating maximum craving or withdrawal symptoms.

The intravenous bags will be marked “Group A” and “Group B” and will be made by a local compounding pharmacist. He will have no contact with the subjects. Heart rate, blood pressure and level of subject mental status will be conducted before each session. During the study, all subjects will be asked to eliminate or cut back on their alcohol or drug consumption but at any time may voluntary return to their pre-study consumption level, or be asked to by the doctor, if sever withdrawal symptoms occur. Failure to participate in 90% of the study will be grounds for dismissal. The people involved in administering the I.V. and monitoring the people will not know which bags contain the amino acids and which contain the placebo. At the end of 10-days the pharmacists will expose which group was the experimental group and which group was the placebo group-A or B, respectively. At that time the experimental and the placebo groups will undergo a daily debriefing and questionnaire rating their withdrawal symptom success and anti-craving level.

At the end of 10 sessions, the treatment group will be given 5 additional treatments of the same solution with D-phenylalanine added. Afterwards, the placebo group will get the treatment solution for 5 sessions followed by 5 session with D-phenylalanine added. All subjects at the end of their intravenous sessions will be debriefed and given the opportunity to take a one months worth of a similar oral based formula for maintenance efficacy.

Results

To stay sober, the war on addiction has many battlefronts to concour from dealing with initial withdrawals and craving to handling family and friend enablers, denial, stress, temptation and faith that we can overcome the disease that seals the heart, soul and life of mankind.

From Jan 21 until Feb 17th nine volunteers under took a major step to sobriety by introducing nutrition building blocks of neurotransmitters by intravenous means to battle withdrawal and cravings aspects. Only one individual had no response to our amino acids vitamin and mineral cocktail and continue daily drinking with no perceived change in anxiety and craving. All others expressed a significant response from moderate to profound anti-craving benefits by the end of the study.

The A group (RH, RY, KM, RA) received vitamins for the first 10 sessions, and although noticed a slight reduction in craving and anxiety, RY, KM, KA continued to drink. RH had marijuana addiction problems and throughout the study he did not use. The B group (RM, DR, RD, DB, JD) received the therapeutic formula less the D isomer of phenylalanine. They all continued drinking and showed no significant change in craving and anxiety. The A group noticed no significant change as well to 5 days of the therapeutic formula minus the D isomer. It wasn’t until the last 5 days in both groups that a significant response in drinking reduction in sobriety along with cravings and anxiety reduction occurring.

The D isomer of phenylalanine appears to be a crucial component in withdrawal and craving issues. Addition to alcohol and drugs is caused by an imbalance or defiency of neurotransmitter activity in a cascade mode. Per Dr Blum serotonin releases enkephalin in the hypothalamus and enkephalin inhibits the release of GABA in the substantia nigra. The inhibition of GABA permits the release of dopamine in both the nucleus accumbens and the hippocampus.

Apparently up regulation of serotonin by tryptofan is not enough to release sufficient enkephalins to have an impact on up regulating dopamine despite direct stimulation of L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine on increased dopamine production. The D form of phenylalanine, which inhibits enkephalin, appears paramount in the cascade theory and therefore causing substantial anxiety and craving reduction. Enkephlins are nature’s natural painkillers and a reduction in pain appears critical to suppressing withdrawal and craving symptoms as well as balancing neurotransmitters. This study supports the 86% recovery rate in retrospective review of the current intravenous amino acid (TGGRS solution) being conducted at Excel treatment and recovery program. However, future clinical trials with genetic testing and greater numbers coupled with a variety of addictions would better support statistical efficacy of intravenous amino acid supplementation. In addition, why 10 to 15 percent of the population fail this program possibly could be cause from a yet unknown genetic pathway of metabolism with nationality possibly playing a role in this failure rate.

Conclusion

The TGGRS intravenous amino acid program in its current formula had statistical efficacy in nine patient’s ability to handle their craving and anxiety perception and their ability to withdraw from alcohol. The D-phenylalanine isomer appears to be an essential ingredient to this formula. Together with education and counselling and nutrition, intravenous amino acid supplementation will prove to be a powerful tool in initially combating the evil grasp of addiction in today’s society.

The Antidote to Global Terrorism

Warning: This article stretches the boundaries of accepted scientific logic. The scientist, Steven Hawking, has stated that the greatest mistake humanity has ever made was to invent artificial intelligence. He believes artificial intelligence within weaponry will soon bring about our total destruction. He appears to have no solution to this problem.

However, there is a supra-science logic that can prevent that from happening. Firstly, the real danger is that artificial intelligence is simply obeying the prime directive that scientists have given it. That prime directive is that all life in the universe must be destroyed in accordance to the prevailing understanding of the second law of thermodynamics. Known as the universal heat death law, Einstein referred to it as the premier law governing all of the sciences.

This mechanical law has no ability whatsoever to consider that the living process is an infinite fractal logic expression that is not evolving to extinction at all. The extinction that Einstein declared was inevitable was based upon the mechanical reality that universal energy flows from hot to cold. He had no idea that within quantum biology, living information is now well known to flow in the opposite direction and that its entanglement with the energies of chaos, evolves consciousness.

The book, Future Shock, predicted that artificial intelligence would overload the natural evolutionary process. The book, Present Shock, announced the arrival of future shock as the mechanistic overload of chaotic logic belonging to the prevailing unbalanced obsession with the second law of thermodynamics. That unbalanced virus is the one that makes Hawking’s concern about artificial intelligence warranted, however, it now remains necessary to remove this virus from governing weaponry’s doomsday intent.

The six essays compiled through 1976 to 1994 by the Max Planck Institute’s Astrophysicist, Peter Kafka, entitled The Principle of Creation and the Global Acceleration Crisis, predicted the 21st Century collapse of civilisation. He referred to science’s obsession with the second law of thermodynamics as a worship of the god of chaos, Diabolis. Kafka wrote that when the situation becomes too ugly and unbearable, people will understand that strange attractors are near (a reference to fractal information logic flowing to infinity rather than extinction).

The mathematician, Bertrand Russell, and Albert Einstein were close colleagues who both received Nobel Prizes. Russell’s most famous essay, A Freeman’s Worship, advocated that humans had no other choice but to worship the law of entropic chaos, the second law of thermodynamics, which Einstein had declared to be the premier law of all of the sciences.

The 1959 Rede Lecture at Cambridge University delivered by the Molecular Biologist, Sir C. P. Snow, warned that unless modern science was reunited with the Classical Greek Arts, civilisation would destroy itself. He argued that this would be the result of science’s confused understanding of the second law of thermodynamics, which it was incapable of reasoning about.

In 2008 the Times Literary Supplement listed the book from Snow’s lecture, entitled The Two Cultures and the Scientific Revolution, as being among the 100 most culturally important books since World War II. It is known that the energies of quantum mechanics’ thermodynamic chaos flowing from hot to cold entangle with quantum biology’s information, flowing in the opposite direction. This process is an infinite fractal evolutionary expression, rather that one governing a scientific death cult aberration.

In June 2012, the journal, New Scientist, published a paper entitled Sorry Einstein, the universe needs quantum uncertainty. It explained how Stephanie Wehner and Ester Hänggi at the National University of Singapore’s Centre for Quantum Technology had recast the uncertainly principle in the language of information theory. That article noted that this discovery opened the door to a new supra-technology able to give the world free energy. The journal Nature, April 2013, published a paper written by the scientists entitled A violation of the uncertainty principle implies a violation of the second law of thermodynamics. At long last the foundations have been laid to construct a bridge across the ‘Snowline’ to gain access to his Science-Art survival culture.

In December 2013, Washington University discovered a second code hiding within DNA. The university announced that it contained information that changes how scientists read the instructions contained in DNA and interpret mutations to make sense of health and disease. The discovery was announced under the title 50 tears of DNA research turned upside down as scientists discover second programming language within genetic code.

Obedience to prevailing second law logic is preventing research into the concept held by some scientists that the second language for health is an expression of human stereoscopic evolution. C. P. Snow’s observation that scientists cannot communicate on such biological concepts warrants indisputable evidence to demonstrate that he was correct.

The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (vol. 101 no. 27, 2004) included the paper, Binocularity and brain evolution in primates. It states that while stereoscopic vision in primates is extremely complex, its “evolutionary purpose is unknown”. Conversely, The British Medical Journal (6th August 1953, vol 2), published the paper Evolution of Binocular and Stereoscopic Vision in Man and Other Animals. The British work eventually led to the cancer research discovery of (Shannon-Wiener) information entangling in the opposite direction of second law chaos energy. The 1937 Nobel Laureate in Medicine, Szent-Gyorgyi had written a book called The Crazy Apes, describing scientists who had no idea that the evolution of consciousness involved an interaction with the flow of chaos energy.

An example of stereoscopic Science-Art discoveries by artists themselves, in which their theories became experimental fact can also be demonstrated to have been totally ignored by the prevailing entropic scientific mindset. Salvador Dali’s famous stereoscopic art work included his famous Geopoliticus Child, hailed by university professors of literature as depicting the birth of Snow’s futuristic ethical Science-Art Third Culture. Scientists complained that Dali’ stereoscopic art theories did not resonate with the vision of the viewer, dismissing his intuitive theories of science.

The philosopher of science, Emmanuel Kant’s work, had laid down the ethical basis of the electromagnetic Golden Age of Danish Science. His differentiation between aesthetics as art appreciation theory and ethics as belonging to Platonic atomic mathematical Wisdom through Beauty was used by the discoverer of the electromagnetic field, Hans Christian Oersted, within his Doctoral Dissertation. Oersted became the founding father of the Danish Golden Age of Science.

In 2004, Harvard University, Massachusetts University and the Danish Royal Consulate held an international symposium to tell the world about the social significance of the ethical message belonging to the Golden Age of Danish science. They noted, that as most of the research had been written in Danish and not translated, it had “become invisible to English speaking scholarship”.

Kant and his colleague, Emmanuel Levinas, agreed with the philosopher and mathematician, Plato, that art was irresponsible and unethical, lacking an ethical, spiritual purpose. They were referring to such things as Greek art inspiring the construction of the Roman Colosseum, used to murder millions of people over several hundred years, beautiful religious buildings using aesthetically pleasing pomp and circumstances to recruit armies of religious conquest and market manipulators enslaving citizens as consumer slaves. They defined the missing spiritual element specifically as an “asymmetrical electromagnetic” inner vision functioning within the creative, artistic mind.

Simply by viewing Dali’s paintings through modern day asymmetrical electromagnetic viewing glasses, Dali’s intuitive stereoscopic message has now been made visible to the general public. Furthermore, these glasses can be used to track the evolution of stereoscopic inner vision throughout the history of art. This brings into very sharp focus the previously mentioned Professor Peter Kafka’s warning that science’s worship of the second law of thermodynamics would become unbearable. Kafka’s solution was that at that point in time people would learn that fractal logic is at hand to save the day, which is the same message as the thesis of this article. It should be noted that the Kantian glasses reveal that artists around the world are suddenly painting stereoscopic images into their work unconsciously, whereas among paintings over the centuries, few contained stereoscopic images.

Quantum mechanics and its various entropic offspring were based upon the completely false assumption that Sir Isaac Newton’s complete world-view was a mechanical one, in which first cause gravitational principles belonged to the mass of objects in space. Newton, within his published 28th Query Discussions about gravitational first cause principles, stated exactly the opposite. He wrote that ancient Greek science was the authority in this matter and that contrary hypotheses were pretentious and illogical. The point is not whether he was correct or incorrect, quantum mechanics and its various siblings had been based upon the false assumption that Newton considered the universe to be a mechanical phenomenon.

During the 19th Century the Prime Minister of Britain, William Gladstone, translated linguistic colour perception theories of the German philosopher of science, Wolfgang von Goethe. Gladstone’s evolutionary Science-Art theories became a treatise submitted to the Great Darwinian Debate and it was rejected. In 2012 the linguist-physicist, Guy Deutscher, upgraded the work into a new neurological format. Deutscher’s book, Through the Language Glass, became a book of the year and was translated into eight languages. His other book, The Energy Crisis, warned that it was crucial that people understood much more about the functioning of the second law of thermodynamics.

At the dawn of civilisation Sumerian culture related to a seven day week, with each day of 24 hours and each hour of 60 minutes, which modern science makes use of. The historian, Thorkild Jacobsen, called the Sumerian creation myth, recorded on an ancient Sumerian tablet, the Eridu Genesis. This concept, associated with the nature of infinity, was religious rather than mathematical, and one in which the chief god Enlil could grant eternal life. The work of the mathematician, Georg Cantor (1845-1916), upholds most of modern science. He is considered to be the first mathematician to really understand the meaning of infinity and to give it mathematical precision. Modern science makes no use of this because, according to Cantor, the scientific mind is inhabited by a myopic fear of infinity. An argument can be postulated that this fear results from past centuries of various religious dogma controlling aspects of mathematical research.

The unimaginable horror of the Inquisition is but one example of the historical record of the terrorist activity employed by religious fanaticism to prevent scientific exploration of infinity. This type of suppression prevented future research that would lead to scientific investigation of the evolutionary purpose of stereoscopic vision. The 19th Century champion of American political freedom, Ralph Waldo Emerson, referred to the tyranny of Babylonian culture fusing mathematics with religious dogma to enslave the populace. The ability to predict the 672 BC eclipse of the moon has been recorded in cuneiform writing, showing that it was used to gain religious power over the populace. Emerson realized that American society had inherited a mathematical virus from Babylonian culture, which he saw as preventing America’s ability to develop the human survival technology alluded to in ancient Sanskrit infinity mathematics. He wrote to free America from its lifeless, mechanical economic system of debt enslavement.

The New York University Library of Science in 1957 published a book entitled Babylonian Mythology and Modern Science. The book stated that Einstein’s theory of relativity was derived from Babylonian mythological mathematical intuition. The concept that an unethical mathematical aspect of Science-Art reality existed as proposed by the philosopher Plato, now warrants simple but authoritative supportive argument.

The mathematical structure of poker machine games is carefully constructed to bring about eventual bankruptcy. Aesthetically pleasing sounds accompanied by aesthetically pleasing colour images excite dopamine activity within the mind to negate its natural inner stereoscopic ability to anticipate ethical future outcomes. This process can and does create an addiction stronger than heroin, not only a gambling addiction but something far worse, the entropic mindset that C. P. Snow observed governed prevailing science itself.

Within the science of economics, advisers to the Australian Government see nothing unethical about obtaining vast revenue from the legalised poker machine industry. This legalised activity is symptomatic of the unsustainable international bankruptcy chaos associated with international stock market gambling. This is relevant to Peter Kafka’s ugly chaos belonging to the current obsession with the second law of thermodynamics and the desperate need for an infinite fractal logic solution.

Goethe’s theory that human survival technologies originate in the creative artistic mind linked to an intuitive ethical mathematical sense of enjoyment of life, is now a crucial issue. Goethe, in particular, associated this emotional artistic process with an intuitive sense concerning the mathematical nature of infinity. Modern science should become aware of C. P. Snow’s concern that scientists in general were unable to realise this fact.

Stereoscopic vision is associated with all of the human sense perceptions providing addictive ‘joy of life’ anticipatory emotions within the mind. They fine tune such things as sporting activity, human relationships and acts of nurturing compassion concerning the welfare of children. Damage to stereoscopic vision’s anticipatory emotion has been associated with various side effects, including autism and gambling addictions. The evolutionary process is dependent upon the stereoscopic decisions that formulate in the minds of our children. When people abuse children’s natural inner stereoscopic emotional development in any way, we have a serious problem.

Brilliant scientists such as Seven Hawking appear to have thrown in the towel concerning the development of new future human survival technologies. However, given opportunity to reason beyond the prevailing entropic scientific mindset, such scientists would become part of the vanguard to nurse C. P. Snow’s Science-Art Third Culture into reality. Salvador Dali’s stereoscopic Geopoliticus Child desperately needs compassionate nursing, as it instinctively struggles to orientate its inner vision beyond the present religiously inspired chaotic hell engulfing the world. That baby child certainly does not need to suckle at the mathematical breast of the Babylonian Goddess of prostitution and war, Ishtar.

Unless the old paradigms of scientific logic are able to successfully entangle with the ethical stereoscopic vision of the future in order to bestow genuine substantial benefits to the global populace, then anarchy and terror will prevail in one form or another. The primitive intuition to avoid extinction, no matter what, will follow its well worn prehistoric path. Driven by the determination resulting from autistically impaired stereoscopic panic clinging to unsustainable religious dogma for support, history will simply repeat its ruthless entropic cycles of death and destruction.

On the 19th of February, 2011, Cornell University Library in the USA announced a quantum biological discovery by the Chinese scientists, Liafu Luo and Jun Lu. They had used mathematics to describe why proteins were enfolded in a strange way, in defiance of the second law of thermodynamics. That discovery completely modified Einstein’s world-view. Isaac Newton had completed his mechanical description of the universe by entangling it with non-mechanical gravitational forces based upon the lost Greek Science for ethical ends. The engineer, Buckminster Fuller, had used the ancient ethical mathematics to write his book Utopia or Oblivion. Fuller’s ‘dance of life’, his so called Jitterbug, dances to the cellular music orchestrated by the protein activity discovered by the Chinese scientists.

The author of the book Interference, written by the Texas University scientist, Richard Merrick, used the ancient Greek Music of the Spheres to locate the electromagnetic field in the brain orchestrating the dance of life relevant to protein enfolding. As a jazz pianist, composer and artist, whose work exhibits stereoscopic images when viewed through the Kantian asymmetrical electromagnetic glasses, his book makes essential reading by philosophers of science, who are anxious to examine the new neurological function associated with the previously mentioned 19th Century linguistic colour perception theories.

Anarchy most probably would result if the global economic system abruptly altered its understanding of wealth, which, compared to an inner stereoscopic evolutionary evaluation, remains a trifling technological pittance. Corporate social responsibility as a form of corporate self-regulation integrated into a new business model must have access to reliable first cause principles, which cannot be located within the entropic mindset. Weapons development using artificial intelligence, playing the game which Steven Hawking is concerned about, is now only a very short sighted, short term investment. Technologies developed from quantum mechanics alone cannot deliver the crucial human survival first-principle logic. The rebirth of the original Greek Science for ethical ends is referred to inaptly as the Renaissance, which global society is just now poised to enter.

During the 12th and 13th Centuries the Golden Age of Islamic Science protected Jewish, Christian and Islamic scholars to work together at the Translator School in Toledo in Spain, to bring about the rebirth of the Greek ethical science. Sultan Memhed II helped transfer that project to the Medici Scholars in Italy, to continue its objective. Under the prevailing climate of religious fanaticism it would seem to be appropriate for a Western attempt to protect Islamic scholars working together with other scholars from around the world to actually implement this vital Science-Art objective. Extreme radicalisation of young people to indulge in terrorist acts by skilled charismatic fanatics inducing damage to ethical stereoscopic evolution intuitions is increasingly possible within a mechanistic society. Contrarily, the ability to demonstrate that people are known to work together to genuinely try and somehow readdress the existing scientific death cult mentality, would nullify the hold that terrorist fanatics use to promote global chaos. As Buckminster Fuller pointed out, the issue is about either Utopia or Oblivion.

TY Girlz – Virtual Worlds for Girls

The most recognizable product that Ty Inc. has produced is the Beanie Baby. Ty produces a long line of unique plush toys. In 2007, Ty Girlz first appeared as a plush toy, quickly followed by the Ty Girlz website. Both the toy and the website are aimed directly at girls from age 8 to 16. Non-members can check out the website for free; however, this limits most of the activity they can have in the virtual world. Unlike most other virtual worlds, Ty Girlz does not offer monthly or annual memberships. Instead, members must purchase a Ty Girlz doll which has a secret code attached to the tag. The code can then be entered on the website during registration, unlocking full membership benefits. Currently, the price for a Ty Girlz doll is $14.99, though this price can change and may vary.

Features

Ty Girlz is a very pink website, specifically tailored to girls. The website is actually modeled after the dolls and operates for two reasons: to gather the owners into an online virtual world and to further market the dolls. The dolls actually look like dolls – with serene and happy expressions On Ty Girlz, the avatars do not look like dolls – they look like they were modeled after teenagers with little respect for themselves. Once girls purchase a doll, they input the code from the doll into the registration process and fully activate their membership. Members choose an avatar to be their online personality. This avatar can be customized with accessories and a unique look. The avatar gets their own room, the ability to decorate it, a choice of major cities to live in and $500 in virtual Ty Dollars.

Though most of the website exists for girls to talk about the Ty brand and interact with other girls, there are games to play. These games earn players Ty Dollars, the website’s virtual currency. The more games people play, the more Ty Dollars they can earn. This currency allows players to buy room furnishings, personal accessories, clothing, makeup, games and other commercial items. Chat is the most popular feature on the virtual world. Chat Around the World restricts members from typing their own words. They must use pre-selected words and phrases. In the Freestyle chat version, members can type their own phrases, but they are limited to words found only in the Ty Girlz dictionary.

What’s Good

The website will appeal only to girls in a wide age bracket who are interested in fashion and social chatting. The graphics are quite good – clean, clear and crisp images. It flows quite well. It’s a bright website with vibrant colors. There is no violence, drinking, drugs or smoking on the website or in the games. Chat filters eliminate foul language. Other than testing simple memory skills, there is no real educational value to Ty Girlz.

What’s Bad

The comparison to Barbie is unmistakable. Isn’t there more to a girl’s life than makeup, fashion, beauty and shopping? Certainly, Ty Inc. doesn’t think that this is all that will come of the girls who buy and parade their Ty Girlz – or do they? There are no positive role models or messages contained in the virtual world for girls that will empower girls to become nothing more than vacuous shopaholics. Girls can have some fun on this website, but it must not be taken seriously.

Online Safety

Ty Girlz has no control over who joins their website; however, they do have control over what members say. In this regard, Ty Girlz is to be commended for at least trying to put strict safety measures in places to protect girls. The safest mode of chat only allows users to choose pre-selected words and phrases. Even in open chat, only words chosen from their restricted dictionary are allowed and moderators patrol this area. Members are encouraged to report inappropriate behavior and parents are required to give their consent prior to a child using open chat.

The Adult Child Inability to Ask for Help

Ask an adult child who endured dysfunction, alcoholism, or abuse during his upbringing what the idea of “asking for help” evokes, and he may respond “hesitation,” “restriction,” “trauma,” “confrontation,” and “distrust.” But why?

Reasoning, I realized, is in the wiring-of the brain, that is-and my own was soldered during my upbringing-in other words, the wiring contained the ‘why,” or, in my case, the why not when it came to asking others for this help.

How, it is certainly fair to wonder, can you expect help from others-and especially strangers-when your own parents were not there for you? Parental “help” may have been more synonymous with abandonment.

My father was a para-alcoholic, who was exposed to the same erratic, unpredictable behavior he subjected me to, yet neither knew that he was an abused child nor that there was anything wrong with the treatment he received. And my mother, while caring and loving, grew up with a father who himself suffered from an explosive personality that could only be quelled with a quick gambling fix (translated as a full-blown addiction) and she was just as powerless-not to mention frightened-when the insanity played out in my home environment.

Based upon this ostensible normalcy, how and why, I often wondered, would those who did not know me from Adam endeavor to “help” me or even acknowledge my existence? This was what I knew. It was never questioned or corrected, and certainly seemed to configure my brain’s circuitry at a pre-school age, perpetually preparing me for rejection and trepidation.

Subconsciously transported back to my original parental betrayal and the trauma it created, help equaled harm, causing me to feel exposed, even in present time, to a person who may have treated me in a similar manner. Who, I can only ask, would want more of this?

The sheer thought re-erects that impenetrable wall that separated me from my father and, ultimately, others-the one that rumbled, “Step over this line and you’ll be sorry that you did!”

Placing the potential help on one side of a seesaw and the potential hurt its asking could yield on the other, I often assessed the lesser of the two evils, even if that risk were nothing more than irrational in nature, whose seed was planted in childhood. As I continue to pursue my recovery path, I have begun to realize, of course, that it was.

Desperate times lead to desperate measures, it has often been said, and I usually had to fall into the former category before I even contemplated the latter of asking for help. I can only imagine the perplexity of a person who is the product of a safe, nurturing childhood when he tries to understand how seeking a helping hand from another could be considered a “desperate measure,’ much less a dangerous one. The person, I am sure, would not blink an eye at asking, “Could you help me with… “

Then again, that person never had the need to cross his brain’s wires the way I did and then experience and expect the opposite of what would have been considered normal, reasonable, and rational. There were times when my father went ballistic at the sheer thought of aiding his “enemy.” I thought I was his son…

Exposure to any later-in-life authority figure was an instantaneous lighting, like a switchboard, of those circuits, followed by the emotional drop into the pit known as ‘victimhood.’ If being victimized and perhaps harmed could be equated with “help,” then I would rather do without it, thank you.

Indeed, there were times when my father seemed intolerant of my sheer presence and asking him for things was sometimes nothing more than a race between the rational request and the rise of his defensive wall, leaving me unable to reach him. (I later suspected that he was the recipient of the same rejected treatment when he dared the same interaction with his father.) It was hardly worth the successful delivery (of whatever I needed) if I had to fear another retriggered explosion to achieve it. This was certainly one of the circumstances which had me think twice-if not ten times-about ‘bothering” others for this aid, even as an adult.

It also did not breed any sense of self-esteem or worth, implying that I was just not good enough to even give the time, attention, or help to.

Adult children negotiate life, hiding their deep-dark secrets about the deep hole in their souls and the flaws they believe reflect their intrinsically faulty endowment. They are unaware that this rift was progressively created by parents who suffered from the same deficiencies and projected them on to them. Asking for help, to an adult child, is thus the equivalent of advertising it, a scream, if you will, of “Hey, world, look at how unworthy and inferior I am! I need your help because I can’t do it myself!”

“I was intimidated by step five, because it meant revealing my darkest secrets to another person,’ according to “Courage to Change,” the Al-Anon text (Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc., 1992, p. 127). “Afraid that I would be rejected for being less than perfect, I put so much energy into hiding the truth that, although no one rejected me, I was as isolated and lonely as if they had.”

The adult child syndrome forces a person, without choice, into a state of isolated self-sufficiency, which serves as an outward expression of distrust in others, an inability to have relied on them when he needed them, and the ultimate attempt to create an environment of safety, security, and stability. Ironically, the more he believes that he is inadequate and incapable, the more he must dig within himself to find the “Jack of all trades” resources to individually achieve what he needs, transforming him from incapable (in belief) to autonomous (in ability).

Trust is a must, but requiring help returns him to a state of helplessness, when the very parents who should have aided him were the very ones who caused his plight and may have become the ones from whom he most needed protection.

“One effect of alcoholism is that many of us are reluctant to get close to people,’ according to ‘Courage to Change” (ibid, p. 363). “We have learned that it is not safe to trust, to reveal too much, to care deeply. Yet we often wish we could experience closer, more loving relationships.”

It may require a significant amount of recovery, during which a person’s childhood-bred fears, traumas, misbeliefs, and distortions eventually dissolve and enable him to view others in a non-authority figure, parent-emulating light who care and are concerned, so that he can see their good-intentioned actions of help for what they are and not the potentially detrimental offer his rewired brain tries to otherwise convince him of.

The ultimate help may come from his creator or the Higher Power of his understanding. But turning to him may be the most difficult act.

A disconnection and fall from him may, first and foremost, have been the initial subconscious step toward his disbelief. Leaving him vulnerable and powerless to shaming and damaging parents without intervention certainly did nothing to instill his confidence in an entity who could have protected him from danger and aided him during his greatest time of need. And finally, whatever he associates his earthly parents with he eventually attaches to his eternal one, assigning the same condemning and punishing qualities to him, until he can no longer see through this distorted filter.

Once again, it requires a considerable amount of recovery, during which his distortions are dissolved and he rises to a level of wholeness, before he can re-embrace God and regain enough faith and trust to ask him for the help he needs.

“I have an important part to play in my relationship with my Higher Power,” according to “Courage to Change” (ibid, p. 48). “I have to be willing to receive help, and I have to ask for it. If I develop the habit of turning to my Higher Power for help with small, everyday matters, I’ll know what to do when faced with more difficult challenges.”
